Opening Session Speaker: Trevor Noah, ALA Annual San Diego, June 27 – July 2, 2024

Trevor Noah is one of the most globally beloved comedians and is perhaps best known as the host of the Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning, "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central, from 2015-2022. Noah's first book, "Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood," was an instant New York Times bestseller and won the 2017 Thurber Prize for American Humor. Noah's latest comedy special is the 2022 Netflix release, "I Wish You Would," and he can be seen performing live on his "Off the Record" world tour.

Noah will discuss his new book, "Into the Uncut Grass," available October 2024. A gorgeously illustrated fable about a young boy’s adventure into a magical landscape where he discovers the secrets of solidarity, connection, and finding peace with the people we love. The book follows a child’s journey outside of his home and into an enchanted world where he meets new friends and discovers profound truths that he is able to bring back to his own: truths about how to connect with others in spite of differences, how to sow the seeds of community, and how to navigate disagreements without sacrificing love. Infused with the author’s signature wit and imagination, the book features whimsical and poignant full-color illustrations by visionary artist Sabina Hahn. "Into the Uncut Grass" is a timeless tale for readers of all ages—to be read, as Noah says, “for yourself or to a stranger or to someone you love or to a passing snail—and hopefully be reminded of the crowded journey into the uncut grass that we’re all on together.”
