Free performances of plays and stories created by our neighbors at Father Joe's Villages, including two pieces inspired by the Central Library: The Library by Arturo Medina, and Library Lost and Found, written by Frank Kensaku Saragosa.

These shared stories offer a window into incredible journeys of those who have experienced homelessness and faced it with strength, resilience, and humor. The tales are told in the spirit of Father Joe's Villages' CREED--highlighting Compassion, Respect, Empathy, Empowerment and Dignity.

Stay after the performances for a panel discussion about the creation of the play with Father Joe's Villages, Playwrights Project, and the San Diego Central Library. Guests coming from the American Library Association Conference can learn how to replicate a similar program at their home libraries.

This collaborative endeavor, supported by Father Joe’s Villages, Playwrights Project, and San Diego Central Library, is made possible by the Humanities for All Project grant from California Humanities. Guided by Humanities Advisor Frank Kensaku Saragosa, a PEN America literary award winner with firsthand experience of homelessness in San Diego, this initiative aims to shed light on the human aspect of the homelessness crisis. This project is supported by a Humanities for All Project Grant. For more information, contact Supervising Librarian, Monnee Tong, at [email protected]. *Please note that the time for this event was changed to 2pm.*
